Guzman Looks for Statement Finish in Return at SHP 100

HOUSTON — For Cristian Guzman, owner of Space City Collective and longtime veteran of the Subhunter stage, competing in the 160-pound black belt no-gi main event of Submission Hunter Pro 100 is more than another match — it’s a full-circle moment.

“It’s been a while. I haven’t been on Subhunter since February, so I’m looking forward to it,” Guzman said. “I got a game opponent too. I see a submission in the first 10 minutes for sure. Be ready to tap.”

Guzman faces Manuel Vasquez, and the matchup carries personal motivation.

“It’s important because I beat this guy’s coach twice,” he said. “I got to go 3–0 against those guys, you know.”

Guzman made his Subhunter debut as a purple belt in 2017 and credits the promotion for helping elevate his career.

“Eric Garcia — he’s been a big part of my career, helping me get to the big stage,” Guzman said. “Richard Burmaster, they’ve had my back since purple belt. He was actually my first sponsor as well.”

He said walking into Imagen Venues, where Fury FC also stages events, brings a sense of familiarity.

“To me, it feels like home,” Guzman said. “When I get to the arena, you feel it — it’s home for me now.”

With more than 20 Subhunter matches under his belt, Guzman said experience will play a major factor.

“I don’t know about this guy. I’m not sure how many Subhunter matches he has, but I have probably over 20, 30 — I don’t know, I lost count,” he said.

Guzman closed with a message to fans:

“My name is Christian Guzman. I’m competing on Subhunter 100 on November 16. If you can’t be there in person, make sure to catch it on UFC Fight Pass.”
