Golden Boy Launches Ortiz vs. Lubin Kickoff Press Conference Launches November Showdown in Fort Worth

ARLINGTON, Texas – Golden Boy Promotions officially kicked off promotion for one of the year’s most anticipated fight cards, headlined by undefeated knockout artist Vergil Ortiz Jr. (23-0, 21 KOs) defending his WBC interim super welterweight world title against top contender Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin (27-2, 19 KOs). The 12-round main event takes place Saturday, Nov. 8, at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, streaming live worldwide on DAZN at 5 p.m. PT / 7 p.m. CT.

Golden Boy chairman Oscar De La Hoya praised Lubin for stepping up when others wouldn’t. “Every single champion at 154 is running from Vergil Ortiz. That’s why I applaud Erickson Lubin—he stepped up to the plate. This is a dangerous fight, and that’s what makes it special.”

Lubin embraced the challenge. “I’ve fought top opposition after top opposition. Vergil Ortiz is no different. This is my third undefeated fighter in a row,” he said. Ortiz responded with confidence: “Lubin has intellect, experience, and power—that makes him dangerous. But the fans in Texas can expect an electric atmosphere, and I’m motivated to put on a great performance.”

The co-main event features Floyd “Kid Austin” Schofield (19-0, 13 KOs) against former Olympian and world champion Joseph “JoJo” Diaz Jr. (34-8-1, 15 KOs) in a 10-round lightweight bout. Schofield, ranked No. 1 by the WBA, is coming off a spectacular first-round knockout of Tevin Farmer. Diaz, fresh from a fight-of-the-year candidate against Regis Prograis, promised: “Kid Austin is going to take his first defeat with me.” Schofield countered: “Everything rides on this fight. I’ll be focused and give the fans a great show.”

Rising Houston star Darius “DFG” Fulghum (8-0, 8 KOs) will meet David “Dynamite” Stevens (13-1, 9 KOs) in a super middleweight showdown. “Anybody that picks me as an opponent is making a mistake,” Stevens said. Fulghum fired back: “This fight is going to be a firefight. We’re going to set the tone for the card.”

Opening the DAZN broadcast will be U.S. Olympian and heavyweight knockout artist Joshua “The Rocket” Edwards (4-0, 4 KOs) facing Zeno Vooris (5-1, 5 KOs) of Las Vegas. Making his Texas debut, Edwards promised: “Get there early. Don’t blink.”

With the stage officially set, November 8 promises a night of explosive action in Fort Worth, bringing big-time boxing back to Texas in a major way.
