Texans Erase 19-Point Deficit, Stun Jaguars 36–29 in Historic Comeback

Trailing by 19 points in the fourth quarter, the Houston Texans mounted one of the most improbable comebacks in franchise history, defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars 36–29 on Sunday at NRG Stadium. The rally marked the largest blown lead in Jaguars history and produced a scorigami — a final score never before recorded in the NFL.

With starter C.J. Stroud sidelined, Davis Mills delivered in relief. The backup quarterback completed 27 of 45 passes for 292 yards and two touchdowns, then sealed the comeback with a 14-yard rushing score with 31 seconds remaining. The win snapped Houston’s two-game skid and improved the Texans to 4–5 on the season.

Houston’s defense slammed the door in the final quarter, holding Jacksonville to just 11 net yards and a single first down. Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter combined for 2.5 sacks in the closing minutes, helping erase what had been a 29–10 Jaguars lead.

For Jacksonville (5–4), it was a stunning collapse. Head coach Liam Coen said afterward:

“Definitely some probably disbelief, you’re like you got a 19-point lead and can’t hold onto it… That’s disappointing. That’s really disappointing against an in-division opponent on the road where you’re controlling the game for the majority of it with all three phases having an impact. … We’ll definitely have to challenge each other this week to get back on track.”

The victory tied Houston’s franchise record for its largest fourth-quarter comeback and underscored the team’s resilience under head coach DeMeco Ryans. With Mills commanding the offense and the defense surging late, the Texans found a way to make history at home.

Houston will travel to face the Tennessee Titans next Sunday, aiming to keep its playoff hopes alive in a tightly packed AFC South race.
