Dodgers, Brewers, Blue Jays and Mariners Advance as Division Series Wrap Up
The MLB Division Series came to a close this past weekend, finalizing the four teams that will move on to the League Championship Series — and one of those matchups is already underway.
In the American League, the Toronto Blue Jays handled the New York Yankees in four games, taking the series 3–1. Toronto’s offense made the difference early, led by a strong showing from Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who drove in key runs throughout the series. Rookie pitcher Trey Yesavage also stood out with a sharp outing that kept New York off balance. The Yankees never found consistent rhythm at the plate, and Toronto’s bullpen held firm to close it out.
The Seattle Mariners advanced after an epic five-game battle with the Detroit Tigers that ended in the 15th inning of the deciding game. Seattle clawed back late behind clutch hitting and steady pitching, showing the same grit that carried them through the regular season.
Over in the National League, the Los Angeles Dodgers took care of the Philadelphia Phillies in four games. Their pitching staff carried the load, and a tense extra-inning finish in Game 4 ended the series. Tyler Glasnow and Roki Sasaki gave Los Angeles quality innings, while Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman provided enough offense to send the Dodgers back to the NLCS.
The Milwaukee Brewers closed out the Chicago Cubs in five games, taking advantage of their home-field edge. Milwaukee’s arms kept Chicago’s lineup contained in key moments, and the Brewers capitalized on run-scoring chances that ultimately made the difference in the final game.
The American League Championship Series began Sunday, with the Mariners taking Game 1 in Toronto. George Springer opened the scoring for the Blue Jays with a first-inning home run, but Seattle’s lineup answered back and took control in the later innings. Bryce Miller turned in a strong start, and the Mariners bullpen shut the door to take a 1–0 series lead.
The Dodgers and Brewers will kick off the National League Championship Series later this week as the chase for the World Series continues.
