Titans Fire Brian Callahan After 1–5 Start

The Tennessee Titans have fired head coach Brian Callahan after a 1–5 start to the 2025 season, ending his tenure less than two years after he was hired to lead a full rebuild in Nashville.

Team president Chad Brinker announced the decision Monday, saying the franchise “hasn’t made the competitive progress expected” through six weeks. The move comes a day after Tennessee’s 20–10 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, a game that underscored the team’s offensive struggles and inability to finish drives.

Callahan, 40, was hired in January 2024 after a successful stint as offensive coordinator with the Cincinnati Bengals, where he helped shape Joe Burrow into one of the league’s top quarterbacks. The Titans hoped he could develop rookie signal-caller Cam Ward, but the offense never found consistency.

Through six games, Tennessee ranks near the bottom of the NFL in total offense and scoring, averaging just under 17 points per game. Callahan had already handed over play-calling duties last month in an attempt to spark improvement, but the team continued to slide.

The Titans went 4–19 overall under Callahan, making him just the second coach in franchise history to be dismissed midseason since the team’s move to Tennessee.

An interim head coach is expected to be named later this week. The Titans host the New England Patriots, now led by former Tennessee head coach Mike Vrabel, in Week 7 — adding extra intrigue to a matchup between two franchises undergoing major transitions.

Callahan’s firing marks the first head coaching change of the 2025 NFL season.
