Thompson, Şengün Lead Rockets Past Mavericks for Fourth Straight Win

Houston Rockets guard Amen Thompson scored a season-high 27 points and center Alperen Şengün added 26 points and 11 rebounds to propel Houston to a 110-102 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Monday night at the Toyota Center.

Houston improved to 4-2 with its fourth straight win. After falling behind early, the Rockets seized control in the second half thanks to Şengün’s spinning drive for a basket with about 90 seconds remaining that made it 105-102, and Thompson’s ensuing block of rookie Cooper Flagg sealed the outcome.

Dallas was hampered by the absence of key big men, including Anthony Davis and Dereck Lively II, and while P.J. Washington posted 29 points and 12 rebounds, the Mavericks could not sustain their late surge.

The Rockets overcame 17 turnovers and shot just 27.6 percent from three-point range, yet dominated the boards and executed timely plays down the stretch.
