Yesavage, Blue Jays Dominate Dodgers 6–1 to Move One Win from World Series Title

Rookie right-hander Trey Yesavage delivered a dominant performance and the Toronto Blue Jays pounded the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-1 in Game 5 of the 2025 World Series to take a commanding 3-2 series lead.

Yesavage struck out 12 batters over seven innings and walked none, becoming the first rookie in World Series history to log at least 10 strikeouts with zero walks in a start.  Toronto jumped ahead early with back-to-back home runs to open the game by Davis Schneider and Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the first two batters in a World Series game to go deep consecutively.

The Dodgers’ lineup never recovered. While Yesavage was locating his splitter and dominating the strike zone, Los Angeles managed only one run — a solo shot by Kiké Hernández in the third inning.  In the seventh, the Blue Jays broke things open: two wild pitches, a walk, and an RBI single from Bo Bichette turned the game into a rout.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts admitted the club “clearly see[s] those guys finding ways to get hits, move the baseball forward, and we’re not doing a good job of it.”  With the series shifting back to Toronto, the Blue Jays now have a chance to clinch their first championship since 1993 when Game 6 begins Friday at Rogers Centre.
